Western Australia’s building and construction industry is one of our largest employers, and housing construction is one of the most powerful ways to boost the economy and create jobs.
Right now, there are more than 14,000 families on WA’s social housing waitlist, and another 9,000 people experiencing homelessness every night. Building social housing not only creates jobs, but it has the added social benefit of providing much needed housing for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
Not only do we need more social housing, but the existing housing stock needs to be refurbished and made more energy efficient. By auditing energy usage, installing rooftop solar, and repairing existing homes, we’d not only create thousands of jobs, save hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions, but also dramatically improve the lives of those who live in them.
