Let's push for a budget that puts People, Jobs and Climate first
The Western Australian government is currently preparing the budget that will shape how our state recovers from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The government seems intent on “cutting red and green tape” to prioritise quick-fix economic boosters that will cost the climate, the economy and the jobs market long-term. Help us to make sure that a stimulus package is invested in a way that creates thousands of secure jobs in clean industries.
This is our chance to build a sustainable future for WA. Together, we can ask for a budget that funds regenerative farming methods, a clean metals industry, a world-class public transport system, and a thriving 100% renewable energy sector. That’s why we’re encouraging you to endorse our open letter asking the Premier and Treasurer to support a Clean Jobs Stimulus and Recovery Package. You can sign on behalf of yourself, a business or community group.
We have a plan to make sure that this budget provides for Australian workers and families. Low carbon stimulus measures will maximize the chance of a strong recovery. Research by Clean State demonstrates far more jobs are created in low carbon industries than conventional or fossil fuel-based areas for the same amount invested (Figure 1).
