2020: the year for climate action
In 2019 the impacts of climate change became undeniable. We saw the Amazon go up in flames, our neighbours in Pacific Island nations face the impacts of rising sea levels and a global increase in climate-related natural disasters.
Will you join us in making 2020 the year we hold WA’s big polluters to account?
Closer to home, this summer we have been suffering the longest and most severe bushfire season that Australia has ever seen. The loss of lives, homes and ecosystems has been devastating. We are immensely grateful to the firefighters and other volunteer services for the sacrifices they’re making to protect our communities, forests and wildlife. There are many ways to support these frontline services.

There is now a global shift towards the recognition of the negative impacts of fossil fuel use and the multifaceted benefits of clean energy sources. Governments, corporations and individuals all over the world are doubling down their efforts on climate action and embracing the economic growth and job opportunities that come with a transition to renewable energy.
Western Australia, however, is lagging behind. While the rest of the world is making commitments to rapidly reduce their emissions, big gas companies are planning to expand LNG projects in WA that will massively increase pollution for decades into the future.
Last year WA became the world’s largest exporter of LNG and the climate pollution from WA processing facilities alone is now as high as the entire annual emissions from countries such as Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Denmark!
Despite the LNG industry exacerbating climate change and intensifying natural disasters, they have not been required to adhere to environmental regulations and pay minimal tax and royalties.
That’s why we need your help to ensure the WA LNG industry does not continue to expand. Can you help make 2020 the year that WA’s big polluters are finally held to account? We’re hosting a campaign welcome night next Thursday evening to discuss what needs to happen over the next six months to kickstart serious climate action here in WA.
We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to phase out fossil fuels and unlock WA’s potential as a clean energy superpower.
