Browse and Burrup Hub Briefing
The Environmental Protection Authority is seeking submissions on the proposal to develop the Browse Basin and other gasfields off the north coast of WA. But the documents reveal that the Burrup Hub project would be the most polluting fossil fuel project ever to be developed in Australia. With over 6 billion tonnes (gigatons) of pollution over its lifetime, the project would release around four times the pollution of the proposed Adani coal mine in Queensland.
The $50 billion project will require drilling over 50 wells to extract gas from beneath Scott Reef, one of Australia’s most pristine marine biodiversity hotspots off the remote Kimberley coast.
This event will discuss the implications of the Browse Basin and Burrup hub developments on the environment and the climate, inviting the audience to consider if the proposal should be allowed to proceed.
